So the theatrical release of Star Cinema’s The Reunion, helmed by Frasco Mortiz, is nigh. There was sizable buzz around the film’s accompanying soundtrack as early as June, mostly because it’s an Eraserheads tribute, but also because it features a more multifarious lineup of acts than previous homage efforts. The official trailer of the film has already surfaced online, and it’s a no-fail teen proposition: an ensemble cast featuring some of the most popular young stars from the ABS-CBN stable. Among the musicians involved in the project is Peryodiko’s Vin Dancel, who appears in the OST sans his usual band, doing a cover of that ode to the road, “Overdrive.” Dancel just shot a video for the song, with Marla Ancheta directing. (Ancheta has worked with the likes of Callalily, Kjwan, and, most recently, Rico Blanco, on his latest single “Amats.”) Consistent with the ‘Heads’ original, the video features a mini-narrative involving a quick beach escape, this time utilizing the Tagaytay and Batangas countryscapes. Stars Enchong Dee, Xian Lim, Enrique Gil, and Kean Cipriano all make cameo appearances. “It was actually the first time I genuinely smiled and had fun in a video shoot. Ang steady,” Dancel shares, all praises for his director, as well as for Malay Javier, who served as director of photography.
Watch Vin Dancel and a host of other performers (including Itchyworms, Hilera, Tanya Markova, and Johnoy Danao) perform some of the most memorable songs from the famed Diliman-bred quartet on Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Trinoma Activity Center. Gig starts at 5PM and will (thankfully for those who cannot make it) be streamed exclusively on Rice Radio. Photo by Dennis Dancel.
